Ottawa Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (OSAP)
OSAP consists of community members, human service professionals, businesses, law enforcement, government officials, schools and school personnel who are working together to create change regarding youth substance use. The OSAP mission statement is “We who live, work, and care about youth in Ottawa County will prevent substance abuse through effective, coordinated, and sustainable action.” Arbor Circle coordinates the OSAP coalition, which has a number of initiatives, subcommittees, and task forces.
OSAP Subcommittees & Task Forces
BRY is a suicide prevention committee. The mission of BRY is to build resilient youth and provide help for teens who are struggling with depression and suicide. BRY provides education to youth and those who work with youth to understand and be aware of the signs of suicide. The two types of training we provide include Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) – a 60-90 minute suicide prevention training, and Mental Health First Aid – an 8 hour training. Request a QPR or Mental Health First Aid training.
ROADD works to prevent high-risk drinking and the consequences of drinking and driving in Ottawa County.
OSAP subcommittee working to reduce the negative impacts of unhealthy recreational marijuana use (addiction, impairment at work, etc.) and prevent underage or youth use.
Quadrant-based subcommittees are local subcommittees focused on prevention efforts in their specified town or city. Quadrants are based on where the population centers are located in Ottawa County.
