About our work

We believe that everyone deserves access to mental health care, no matter their circumstances. That’s why we meet people where they are, both physically and emotionally. Whether through in-home and in-community services, school-based support, or in-office counseling, we make sure care is accessible when and where it’s needed.

We know that every individual and family we serve brings their own unique experiences, challenges, and aspirations. That’s why we take a deeply personal approach, working alongside them with customized support to help them achieve the goals that matter most to them.

Compassion is at the heart of everything we do—guiding how we support individuals, strengthen communities, and foster meaningful connections. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming environment, ensuring that both our staff and those we serve feel valued and heard. By providing services throughout the community, we work to break down barriers and make essential care more accessible to all.

Many of our programs focus on supporting communities with limited access to health and mental health care, striving to create more balanced opportunities for wellbeing and success. Our commitment to trauma-informed care ensures that every service we provide is rooted in understanding, empathy, and cultural awareness to meet each person where they are with the support they need.

Our dedication to the community goes beyond direct services. We also invest in education, advocacy, and meaningful engagement to create lasting impact. In the past year, we have:

  • Hosted a free community event focused on improving access to mental health care
  • Provided ongoing professional development opportunities for our staff at no cost to them
  • Supported the next generation of social workers through our internship cohort program
  • Sponsored and participated in numerous community events across our service area

contributor spotlight: Johnson’s carpet one, darwin sterken & tina terry

Director of Development, Taylor Greenfield, sat down with Tina Terry, CEO of Johnson’s Carpet One, to discuss why she and her business partner Darwin Sterken partnered with Arbor Circle to refresh the flooring in many buildings on our Grand Rapids campus.

how did you come to be involved with supporting arbor circle?

A friend of a friend—one of Arbor Circle’s board members got in contact with one of our team members and myself. We came for a tour, and I realized that at one point I had accessed one of the programs for my family. I grew up very close to the main campus as well, before Arbor Circle was officially an organization, and it was cool to see those connections come together.

why is arbor circle important to our community?

Arbor Circle has so many programs, and everyone deserves a second chance. Arbor Circle makes that possible. It is a judgement free zone, allowing folks to be more than their circumstances.

is there a particular program or service offering that you feel most connected to?

I feel most connected to the children and families aspect of Arbor Circle. Being able to go through the spaces and talking through all the things that Arbor Circle does was amazing—especially The Bridge shelter and the work they do helping folks get to the next phase of their lives. It’s important to have these programs available and it was very cool to see how Arbor Circle fits into our community. Meeting with the staff was very eye-opening; a lot of people don’t realize how prevalent these challenges are, including homelessness.

how would you encourage others to get involved in supporting arbor circle’s mission?

Arbor Circle has so many stories; I encourage folks to reach out, visit, anything you can do to learn more about their impact. Sharing their work and helping Arbor Circle get their name out there boosts their impact in the community.
